Honoring Women's History
In recognition of Women's History Month, we are reflecting on the journey of women's rights and empowerment. From overcoming systemic barriers to breaking societal norms, women have forged paths of resilience and strength, shaping the world we live in today.
Shocking Facts About Women's Rights
As we commemorate Women's History Month, let's shed light on some sobering facts that highlight the ongoing struggle for gender equality:
Women spend at least twice as much time as men on domestic work, and when all work – paid and unpaid – is considered, women work longer hours than men.
It wasn't until 1974, with the passing of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, that women in the U.S. were granted the right to open a bank account on their own. Despite technically winning this right in the 1960s, many banks still refused to allow women to do so without their husbands' signatures.
On January 24, 2013, the U.S. military removed a ban against women serving in combat positions, marking a significant milestone in gender equality within the armed forces.
Before the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978, women could be fired simply for being pregnant, highlighting the pervasive discrimination women faced in the workplace.
These facts serve as poignant reminders of the progress made in the fight for gender equality and the barriers that women have historically faced and continue to confront today.
